Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees. In a small saucepan melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the all-purpose flour, salt, basil, black pepper, and milk.
  3. Stir until the mixtures thickens and bubbles. Fold in the Italian parsley.
  4. Grease a baking dish.
  5. Ladle some of the bubbling sauce into the bottom of the baking dish and spread around to evenly coat.
  6. Layer in the thinly sliced potatoes. Pour the rest of the bubbling sauce over the potatoes.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and place in oven. Roast for 1 hour.
  8. Uncover and sprinkle the baking dish with the bread crumbs. Dollop the unsalted butter across the top of the potatoes.
  9. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes longer till potatoes are fork tender. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

this recipe is quite nice. I made a few minor adjustments to it. I added scalloped style red onion, followed by fresh basil about 20 leaves coarsely chopped and fresh parsley. Threw in some Parmesan cheese and olive oil and watched this meal come alive.
